Check for a provider outage first

When several devices stop working, see whether your Canadian provider reports an interruption. Then come back for device and Wi-Fi checks.

How this diagnostic works

Your answers narrow the next check. A wired comparison can separate a home Wi-Fi problem from a slowdown that also affects Ethernet. Upload, ping and jitter help explain calls and games when download looks fine. A test measures your browser’s route to AI Speed at one moment; it cannot locate a fault inside your provider’s network or measure a specific game server.

Connection questions

Quick answers that help you find the cause

Why is my Wi-Fi slow but Ethernet fast?

That comparison points toward the in-home wireless link. Test near the router and in the problem room, then check signal, interference, device limits and whether a mesh node has a strong backhaul.

Why is my internet slow every evening?

Repeat tests with the same device and connection in the evening and at a quiet time. Pause household transfers. The pattern may reflect local usage or a wider network issue; share dated wired readings with your provider.

Why is gaming laggy when download speed is high?

Games often need stable latency and low packet loss more than a huge download rate. Check the game’s own server region, in-game ping and loss while comparing a wired connection.

Why does my video call freeze?

Upload congestion, jitter, Wi-Fi instability and the call service can all matter. Pause backups, try Ethernet, and compare upload and jitter before and during a call.

Can this test detect an outage?

No. A test may fail because the connection, device, browser or this site is unreachable. Check your provider’s official outage status, modem lights and a second device.

Should I factory reset my router?

Avoid a factory reset as a first step: it erases settings. Follow your provider’s normal restart instructions, and use factory reset only with the right setup details or support guidance.

Why is my speed lower than the advertised plan?

Plan rates are commonly measured under specific conditions. Check your device and Ethernet port capability, Wi-Fi link, VPN, background traffic, plan tier and repeated results before contacting support.

What details should I send my internet provider?

Provide your plan tier, equipment model, dates, modem lights, wired and Wi-Fi readings, affected devices and any outage reference. Never send your account password.
