What your IP address can reveal in Canada
An IP lookup can often identify a network and estimate a region. It cannot reliably identify your street address or prove where you are standing.
Public IP versus location
Your public IP address is the address a website sees when your device connects through your router, mobile network, company gateway or VPN. Multiple devices can share the same address. Network operators assign and move address ranges, and location providers maintain databases that associate those ranges with places. A city or postal region returned by a lookup may be the provider's best estimate, a nearby network facility or an outdated assignment.
That is why AI Speed labels its city, province, postal area and coordinates as approximate. The coordinates represent a database estimate, not a GPS reading. A mobile connection or VPN can make the gap between the estimated and actual location much larger.
ISP names need interpretation
An IP lookup often identifies the organization responsible for the address range or its autonomous system. It may name a parent company, transit provider, enterprise network or VPN rather than the brand on your bill. This is especially relevant when an internet provider uses another operator's infrastructure. Compare the reported name with your own account before drawing conclusions.
How this site's lookup works
The IP shown next to the test comes from the request your browser makes to AI Speed. When you ask for more details, the server queries FreeIPAPI for an approximate city, region, postal area, organization and proxy signal. If that lookup is unavailable, AI Speed tries IPWhois; your browser may also contact IPWhois directly if the server cannot reach it. The hosting network may still provide country data. An absent field is shown as unavailable rather than guessed.
A “no proxy signal” response is not proof that no VPN is present. Privacy tools, shared gateways and new network configurations can be missed by a detection database. Use this feature as a practical network clue, not an identity or fraud verdict.
Privacy choices
An IP address may be personal information when it can be linked to an identifiable person. Requesting geolocation sends the address to a separate provider, so AI Speed waits for you to click the lookup control. The speed test does not require that external lookup.
