DevFest’s 2026 season runs from October 1 through December 31, following Google’s September 14 announcement. The community-led events focus on building, securing and scaling software in the agentic era, with workshops and hands-on sessions across Google’s developer stack. Local Google Developer Groups choose their own agendas.
The opening of the season is the timely development; the original announcement is from September. Canadian developers should consult the official directory and individual organizers for a confirmed event date and programme. AI Speed has not verified a particular Canadian venue or promised that every event includes the same tools.
Choose an event by what you want to learn
Google’s programme description includes codelabs, workshops and agent-focused activities. Treat that as a description of the season, rather than a guarantee for an individual gathering. Review the local agenda for prerequisites, equipment, account requirements and whether a session will leave time for actual experimentation.
A useful goal could be learning to evaluate one tool call, reproduce a small failure or protect a development credential. Bring a project small enough to finish or inspect in a session. A broad ambition to build an entire business application can make it harder to notice which part of the workshop actually improved your understanding.

Keep the workshop environment separate
Use a test repository and non-sensitive data. Avoid giving a demonstration agent access to a production account just to save setup time. Check which resources incur charges and remove unneeded test resources afterward. A successful workshop exercise should leave a clear record of what was deployed and how to turn it off.
If a session involves connected tools, identify what the agent may read and what it may change. Compare its proposed action with the actual result. This is an opportunity to learn about failure boundaries, not just the happy path. Ask an instructor how the example behaves when a tool is unavailable or returns incomplete information.
Take a reproducible result home
Save the version, configuration and acceptance criteria for anything you build. Remove credentials before sharing it with colleagues. A small working example is more useful when someone else can repeat it and understand its limitations than when it depends on an unexplained sequence performed by a presenter.
Afterward, try the same exercise with a different input and an intentional failure case. Our analysis is that community events offer their greatest value through practical judgment and discussion with other builders. The season’s headline scale is less relevant than whether the local session helps you build, check and maintain something specific.
