Claude the app and Claude the model
A model is the system producing the response; the app is the interface and tools around it. You can chat through Claude’s web, desktop or mobile interfaces. A developer can also use Claude through an API. The available features and usage limits are not identical in every setting.
This distinction matters when you read a benchmark. A score for a named model does not measure every feature in the consumer app or prove that it will handle your document well.
What can an everyday user try?
Writing and document review are sensible starting points. Our suggested exercise is to give Claude a short, non-confidential draft and ask: “Identify three unclear sentences. Suggest edits that preserve my meaning and explain each change.”
Compare the edits with the original. Look for lost qualifications, exaggerated claims or wording that sounds unlike you. You can accept one suggestion and reject another. The goal is a clearer document, not handing ownership of the message to the tool.
Using Claude for learning and code
You can ask for an explanation at your level, then test it with a small example. For learning, request a question to answer yourself before the assistant provides the solution. That makes it easier to notice whether you understand the subject.
For code, start with a small function or an error message stripped of secrets. Ask for the cause, proposed change and a way to check it. Do not run unfamiliar generated commands or install dependencies solely because the assistant suggests them.
Claude versus ChatGPT
Both offer conversational help across many tasks. A useful comparison is the same draft, instructions and success criteria in each app. Ask whether the output preserves your facts, follows the requested format and needs fewer corrections.
There is no universal winner for every person. A tool that handles your writing style well may not fit your coding workflow, budget or approved workplace environment. Avoid using one polished demonstration as proof of overall superiority.
Access, limits and what to check
Anthropic’s getting-started guide states that users must be at least 18. It also describes free and paid access with different usage allowances. Check supported locations and current plans through the official service.
Before uploading documents, review the account’s privacy settings and applicable policies. Remove personal and confidential material when it is not needed. A long document can still be misread: check quoted passages, important numbers and conclusions against the source.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes Claude?
Anthropic develops Claude. The name can refer to both the assistant experience and its AI models.
Is Claude free?
Free access is available with limits, while paid plans offer different allowances. Consult the current official plan information.
Can Claude read my document?
It can assist with document-related tasks where the interface supports them. Check important claims and quotations against your original file.

Sources and review
We checked these official sources on September 30, 2026. Product descriptions come from the maker’s documentation; examples and evaluation advice are AI Speed’s editorial suggestions, not measured performance claims. Plans, limits and availability can change. We have not tested every feature or certified the service’s privacy or output quality.
